TOEIC

RELA's TOEIC class is a 2-hour afternoon class, and it runs from Monday to Thursday each week, for a total of 8 hours of study per week. Most students combine this with our General English course in the morning.

The TOEIC is an American English examination for those using English in their jobs, and will give you plenty of practice of American pronunciation and spelling. Susanne is our main TOEIC teacher. She has been teaching the class for many years, and she knows exactly how to help students with the typical problems they will face in the test. Her students have given their ideas about how the TOEIC class has helped them, which you can read below.

It is recommended that students should be at upper intermediate or advanced level before they start the course, but it is sometimes possible for intermediate students to join the class. TOEIC students have said the class is useful because:

  • it extends your business vocabulary
  • it helps you speak and write well for the workplace
  • it helps you read texts used at work
  • it helps you differentiate between similar words and sounds
  • it helps you understand newspapers
  • it teaches you good test-taking techniques
  • a good TOEIC test score is useful when job-hunting

Note: There is a TOEIC examination centre in Taupo, an hour's drive from Rotorua. We can arrange for you to take the exam there if you want. Many students take the RELA TOEIC class just to improve their grammar, business vocabulary and reading, writing and listening ability, rather than because they want to take the examination.
