What's on

After learning English during the day, it is always nice to take part in some of our after school activities. Our English school organises a large variety of school and evening activities for our students, such as sports, concerts, and barbecues, visits to other towns and cities in the Bay of Plenty. Details of these activities for the week are put on the common room noticeboard and in the Thursday notices. These activities are a great way for you to have fun, get to know the other students, learn more English and find out about life around Rotorua and in New Zealand!

These are just some of the activities we plan to hold in the coming months. All of them are subject to numbers and weather conditions.

January 2012

Redwoods Walk
The Whakarewarewa forest is one of Rotorua’s most spectacular natural assets.  Come along and experience some of the finest walking tracks in the world here!

Football with Lana 
Students don’t need to be good players to enjoy this activity!  A game of football after school is a great way to meet other students and have lots fun.

Baking
Have fun learning to bake biscuits, slices, pancakes, scones, muffins or pizza.  This is a great activity to practice your English and learn to cook!

Badminton
Come for a game of badminton after school.  RELA has the racquets and shuttlecocks.  There’s no need to be an experienced player, this is strictly for fun!

Tamaki Maori Village Tour
Be welcomed into Tamaki Maori Village in a traditional manner, experience the richness of the Maori culture and enjoy a delicious hangi dinner.

Agroventures
Come along to Agroventures today and try one of their four exciting activities! Choose from The Shweeb, Swoop, Freefall Extreme or Agrojet.

Waitomo - Big day out with Colleen
This tour involves a visit to the popular Waitomo Glow Worm Caves and the Otorohanga Kiwi House, some sight seeing and a stop at a lovely café for lunch.

Mechanical Bull riding
Come along and ride the bucking bull! The bull is suitable for every rider’s ability and is great fun! The more students the more excitement!

Basketball with Lana
Have a game of basketball after class.  This is a great opportunity to meet other RELA students and have some fun. All students are welcome to play!

ZORB
Experience the thrill of the world famous ZYDRO ride! Imagine…you and up to two friends are thrown into a ZORB globe with warm water and sent rolling down a hill! Very Exciting!! After this activity there is usually time to stop off at one of Rotorua’s popular ice cream shops for an afternoon treat!

Blue Baths
Come to famous Blue Baths. These pools have been a part of Rotorua for many years and are a popular attraction. The large swimming pool and 2 soak pools are various temperatures suitable for everyone to enjoy.

Rotorua Museum
Discover the great stories of the Rotorua region through the innovative exhibitions and cinema experiences at Rotorua Museum.

Rainbow Springs
Take this opportunity to see native bush, ferns and trees at Rainbow Springs.  You will also have a chance to see the Kiwi, Rainbow Trout and Tuatara. Experience ‘The Big Splash’ this is a new hi-tech water ride taking you on a journey through time.

Polynesian Spa
Come and relax in soothing thermal water at the very popular Polynesian Spa. These pools have been a part of Rotorua for many years and are a very popular attraction.

DVD afternoon
Kick back in our refurbished self access room with RELA friends and watch a DVD.  We have comfy bean bags to lounge on and the projector gives you an awesome movie experience.

Baking
Enjoy baking with friends and classmates.  This is a great opportunity to chat with other students and learn a valuable new skill. You also get to eat what you have cooked!

Te Waihou Walk
This beautiful walk along the Te Waihou River offers stunning scenery and magnificent colours in its natural beauty.   This is a must do walk.

April 2012

Paradise Valley Springs
Interact with a variety of wildlife such as Deer, Pigs, Thar and Wallabies.  View native New Zealand birds and get close to the Lion Pride at their exciting Lion feeding.

Lakes Tour
Come for a drive around some of the picturesque Lakes that surround Rotorua. This is always a great photo opportunity. 

Horse Riding
Try horse riding this month at RELA! This is a nice experience if you have never ridden before. 

Ten Pin Bowling
Enjoy some friendly competition with fellow students. This is awesome fun whether this is your first time or if you have played before.

Taupo
Come for a day trip to Taupo. On the way we will stop in at the honey hive where they have a great selection of honey and other very interesting products and Huka Falls. While in Taupo you can, shop, walk around some of the lake, visit the museum or go for a swim at the popular DeBretts hot water pools.

Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland
Thousands of years in the making, a wonderland of stunning thermal activity.  This is a must see place to visit, with naturally coloured hot and cold pools (not for bathing), huge volcanic craters, steaming ground and the world famous champagne pool.

Duck Tour
Discover Rotorua with this very unique sightseeing adventure.  Travel on both land and water onboard a WWII amphibious vehicle.

Movies
Come and spend a Saturday morning at the movies with your RELA friends.

Skyline Skyrides
Take a gondola ride up Mount Ngongotaha, soak up the spectacular views of Rotorua and enjoy a fun filled ride on the luge. This activity is good fun or all ages.

Okere Falls Walk
This well formed bushwalk has scenic lookouts over the Okere River and spectacular waterfalls. The trout pool is a popular fishing spot and trout are often seen swimming gently against the current.

Agrodome
This is one of Rotorua’s most loved tourist attractions.  Take a tour on a tractor trailer around an authentic working farm.  You will be able to get up close and meet some of the farm animals, enjoy some wine and honey tasting, then meet the farms remarkable working dogs and witness live sheep shearing.

 

Rotorua has many different scenic walks to do; they are all beautiful and some are longer than others. We usually have a keen group of walkers at RELA so we try to do a variety of walks throughout the month for our students.

Sports can be quite popular at RELA also. We like to have different games throughout the month. Over the road we play soccer and volleyball. In the RELA grounds there are swingball, table tennis, badminton, petanque and tennis racquets available.

There is always a lot happening around Rotorua too.
